Introducing: Equal Arts
Introducing Equal Arts to Young Managers and Independent Artists
If you’re starting out as a manager, producer or independent artist, you’re probably doing several jobs at once: creating the work, finding the funding, managing the schedule and promoting the show. You may also be doing it without much guidance, a steady income or anyone to ask.
Equal Arts was built with you in mind. It’s a European project, led by InDance International with Le Voci di Astarte and SITES / Bruiser Theatre Company, that supports gender equality in leadership and management across dance, theatre, media and the performing arts. Everything it created is free.
What you’ll find
Certificate in Performing Arts Leadership. A micro-learning course of short lessons, quizzes and a certificate, so you can learn between rehearsals, tours and deadlines. It’s available in English, Spanish and Italian, and its three units cover:
- Leadership and voice: how to take an artistic vision to reality and stay true to it
- Mentoring and mental health: building support and a sustainable career without burning out
- Digital confidence: using tools, foresight and your own voice, including in multicultural settings
Women in Leadership playbooks. Practical guides to support each unit.
Digital Portfolio. 52 real practices from the sector that you can adapt for your own company, project or policy, from safeguarding protocols to festivals and productions.
Why it matters for you
The course draws on real testimony from women working in the sector. They talk openly about being placed in supporting roles, building a career without mentoring and what it costs to keep going when passion alone doesn’t pay the bills. If any of that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to work it out on your own.
For young managers, the units help you recognise producing and organising as leadership. For independent artists, they offer ways to protect your energy, build a network and plan a career that lasts.
